Book Formatting Services for KDP and IngramSpark
Professional formatting for indie authors
Your words, laid out the way readers expect a real book to look. Clean, professional ebook and paperback interiors, ready to upload to Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, Apple Books and Kobo.
From USD 117 · One-week turnaround · Files built to pass the platform checks
Your book is finished. Now it needs to look like one.
Most manuscripts are written in Word or Google Docs, and those tools were built for reports and letters. Convert one straight into an ebook or print file and you get the small problems readers notice in the first few pages: chapter headings that drift, uneven spacing, a single line stranded at the top of a page, page numbers on blank pages.
Readers see those pages before they buy. Amazon's Look Inside preview shows your opening to every browser, and a messy interior is one of the quickest ways to lose a sale you've already paid to attract. (Some readers will mention it in their reviews, too.)
Professional formatting fixes it once, properly, so you can get on with your launch.

Vellum-quality formatting, without buying Vellum
Vellum is the formatting software many bestselling indie authors rely on, and it shows: crisp typography, consistent chapter styling, and files retailers accept first time. The catch is that it only runs on a Mac, and the licence that includes print costs USD 249.99.
If you're on Windows, or you're publishing one book and don't want another piece of software to learn, that's a lot of money and time for a single job. We already own it and know it well. You send your manuscript; we send back your files.
How it works
Choose your formatting option and check out.
Email your final manuscript as a Word document or Google Doc, with any notes on style or trim size.
We format your book and send your files: within one week for ebook or paperback formatting, three to four weeks for custom formatting.
You upload to KDP, IngramSpark or your chosen stores. Prefer a hand with that step? Our Done-With-You KDP and IngramSpark Upload Service walks you through it.
Before you send your manuscript
Formatting is the last step before upload, so your manuscript needs to be final. Every change after formatting costs time. Check you have:
Your final edit and proofread done
Front matter: title page, copyright page, dedication, and a table of contents for non-fiction
Back matter: acknowledgements, about the author, your other books, and a link to your newsletter or reader magnet
Your paperback trim size chosen (the most popular are 5 x 8 inches or 127 x 203 mm, 5.25 x 8 inches or 133 x 203 mm, 5.5 x 8.5 inches or 140 x 216 mm, and 6 x 9 inches or 152 x 229 mm; ask if you need another size)
Your ISBN, if you have one, for the copyright page
A word on back matter: it's one of the most valuable marketing pages in your book. A reader who has just finished and loved it is the easiest sale you'll ever make, so give them somewhere to go next.
Why authors choose Stacks Publishing
I'm Fleur Hull. I've published five non-fiction books of my own, spent more than 25 years in writing and marketing, and run The Substack Bookstore, where more than 4,000 subscribers come to find their next read. I read a lot of indie books, and a clean interior makes a difference from the very first page.
Your interior, cover, description and categories all work together on your Amazon page. That's why we offer them side by side: one team can look at the whole book, so nothing gets missed between suppliers.

Frequently asked questions
What is book formatting? Book formatting (also called interior design or typesetting) turns your manuscript into files that look and read like a professionally published book: consistent fonts and spacing, styled chapter openings, page numbers and headers in print, and a working table of contents in the ebook.
How much does book formatting cost? Our ebook formatting is USD 117, paperback interior formatting is USD 127, and custom formatting for both formats, including images, is USD 437.
What's the difference between ebook and paperback formatting? An ebook reflows to fit whatever screen it's read on, and the reader controls the font size. A paperback is a fixed layout: every page is set for your trim size, with margins, headers, page numbers and an inside margin that allows for the binding. They're separate files, so they're separate services.
Will my files work on Amazon KDP and IngramSpark? Yes. Ebooks are delivered as EPUB files, which KDP, Apple Books and Kobo accept. Paperback interiors are delivered as print-ready PDFs set up for KDP Print and IngramSpark.
Can you format a book with images, tables or charts? Yes, through our Complex and Custom Formatting service. Our standard ebook and paperback options are for text-based books.
What do I need to send you? Your final, proofread manuscript as a Word document or Google Doc. For custom formatting, include your images as high-resolution PNG or JPEG files.
How long does it take? One week for ebook or paperback formatting, from the day we receive your final manuscript. Custom formatting takes three to four weeks.
Should I format before or after my cover? Finish your front cover first, then format. Your final page count comes from the formatted paperback file, and your designer needs it to size the spine on your wraparound cover.
Can I make changes after my book is formatted? [Confirm your revisions policy and add it here, for example: one round of minor corrections included, larger changes quoted separately.]
Can't I just use a free tool or AI to format my book? You can, and for a simple text-only ebook a free converter may get you close. Check the result carefully in Kindle Previewer and on a printed proof before you publish. Professional formatting earns its fee in the print edition and the detail: margins, stray lines, chapter openings, and a file that passes the platform checks first time, so your launch date doesn't slip.
