Wendy Gedney, Substack Indie Author

In a previous life, Wendy was a wine teacher then used this skill to start a vineyard tour business in France which she ran for fifteen years. This inspired her to write her first book, The Wines of the Languedoc-Roussillon. It is the only book of its kind, written in English it explains the region, its wine, its history and some of the traditional foods.

Writing that book was her first foray into the world of writing, but since she retired in October 2024, she now has the luxury of time on her side. She spends much of it writing novels, her Substack posts and magazine articles. France is often the theme and so far it’s where her novels are set.

The French Bed, her debut novel, is a romance-mystery that begins when the protagonist buys an antique French bed and dreams vivid scenes of a passionate love affair in 1920s Paris. The dreams end with a murder and the cry of a newborn baby. Were they just dreams… or echoes of a forgotten past?

Coming soon is the sequel, The French Couturier.

Wendy has two Substack publications. The Franco-Files is a monthly newsletter in which she’s currently serialising a memoir of her time in France. How she followed her dream to run a vineyard tour business and live amongst the people who conjure incredible wines from simple grape juice.

In her other Substack Wendy Gedney, she tracks the adventure of returning to live in England after sixteen years away, how changed she finds her country and what will find most difficult and what she rejoices in.
